It’s not a Bible school, although you will learn the Bible. It’s not a mission trip, although you will spread the Gospel to the lost. It is a six-month, life-altering, self-sacrificing, no limits, no turning back experience with Jesus Christ. This school is for those who are willing to give up everything for a Savior that gave up everything for them. Totally surrendered to Him, you will discover who you are, who God is, and how together you can make a difference in this world.
The Discipleship Training School (DTS) is an intensive, college-level course beginning with 12 weeks of lecture and discipleship followed by an 8-10 week practical, cross-cultural outreach. The course is specifically designed to encourage your personal character development while cultivating a living relationship with God. The outreach is the pivotal point of the entire program, causing you to put into action what you have learned while fulfilling the call to “go into all the world and disciple all nations” (Matthew 28:19).
The DTS could be your first step to answering your personal call to serve God. Many graduates say that their DTS was the most powerful turning point of their lives. If you have a passionate desire to deepen your relationship with Christ and actively serve Him, then this school is for you!
No one can sum up all God is able to accomplish through one solitary life, wholly yielded, adjusted, and obedient to Him. --D.L.Moody
Prerequisites
You must be at least 18 years of age, or have graduated high school (or equivalent) to participate in the Discipleship Training School. If you are married, both husband and wife must complete the school together.
We will be running a multi-track DTS - Fall of 2010
What in the world is a Multi-Track DTS?We’re so glad you asked because we are offering just such a DTS this fall and we are giddy with excitement about it! Even Nick and Rozanne Savoca, the Founders of YWAM Metro NY, who ran one of the very first ever Discipleship Training Schools and have continued to do so for the past 37 years, are delighted about this one.
"Multi-Track" means that in addition to the DTS core curriculum set by Youth With A Mission’s University of the Nations, each student will also be given a choice of special focus during their School.
Classic Track
The grass roots of YWAM, with opportunity for exposure to a number of ministry training and outreach opportunities throughout the lecture phase. Outreach will be to Mexico City joining with the Mega-Cities project.
Compassion Track
Special focus will be given to the world of “human trafficking” as well as to children and adults with special needs. Throughout the lecture phase there will be ministry opportunities within New York City and on Long Island. Possible outreach location – Cambodia.
Prayer Evangelism Track
In 1992 YWAM Metro New York introduced the ministry of Prayer Stations to the Body of Christ. Since then hundreds of Prayer Stations have been used on every continent of the world. Students of this tract will learn how to use Prayer Stations effectively as well as teaching and training others to be involved with this strategic evangelism tool. Outreach will also be to Mexico City.
